Reading that Mark Mulder is missing workouts is really a bad thing. Yes, the A's rotation is stacked, and losing their second best starter wouldn't actually hurt them as much as it would hurt some teams, but he's still a guy who, despite missing a significant chunk of the end of the season, was the fifth best pitcher in the AL by Support-Neutral Wins Above Replacement and VORP.
It's not necessarily related to his hip troubles from last year, but who knows, really. Compensation injury? I'll have to catch up on my Baseball Prospectus reading to see if Will Carroll gives any insight.
