David Schoenfield on Trevor Cahill

David Schoenfield joins the Is Trevor Cahill For Real game, and concludes:

But here's something I noticed and a reason why I had a feeling Cahill had a good chance to defy the statistical expectations for him this year: He doesn't give up a lot of solid contact.

Link.

Ok, that's fine. But I think we've established that Cahill doesn't give up hard contact, that his low BABIP hasn't been the result of a lot of screaming liners right into the gloves of his able defensive mates. I hope Schoenfield knows, though, that this doesn't actually answer the question -- does Cahill possess the Weak Contact skill or has he been lucky so far in his (relatively short) career that batters have been failing to barrel up his pitches? I still have not seen the definitive answer to this question.
