Rob Neyer on Petco
I'm sure he's a swell guy, and it's lovely that he spent so many years introducing us to the power of objective thinking, but ... where's the objective thinking in this piece? It's his considered opinion? He might have had evidence once but now it's gone? I understand that he's expected to produce multiple pieces per day, but the answer isn't to toss off opinions like any old Bill Plaschke you can find on a street corner for a dime. If you don't know and you truly don't have time to look or do a study, ask! Put it out on Twitter, change the focus of the blog post a little to reflect the fact that you don't know, do anything but state an opinion without any research at all.
I'd even have been content if he said something along the lines of "I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that ..." though that's not ideal, because I'd believe him, and the statement is easily followed up with "I can't find it now. Does anyone know the study I mean?"
