Ken Huckaby while making an aggressive baserunning play. He was apparently
safe, by the way, but fell off the bag because he was hurt.
Regardless, this is pretty killer for the Yankees, since they don't really have
any quality depth in the middle infield. They can try to make a trade, but the
closest thing to a good available middle infielder is Barry Larkin.
The Yankees aren't screwed just yet, but this could be, already, a key to
getting Boston to the playoffs. Three years in a row, everyone has said, "The
West is too tough for the wild card to come from there." Three years in a row,
the wild card in the AL has come from the West. Don't discount the possibility
of it happening again, especially if the Yankees can't overcome at least six
weeks without Derek Jeter.
