Davey Johnson vs. the front office

At Fangraphs, Eno Sarris writes about the Nationals' plan to limit Jordan Zimmerman to 160 innings and Davey Johnson's reaction to that plan. Particularly notable is this quote from an MLB.com piece:

The Nationals placed a 160-inning limit on the right-hander, and pitching coach Steve McCatty drew up a plan to get Zimmermann to that mark once the roster expands in September. "I've heard the plan, and I'm not that comfortable with it," [said Johnson.]

If you've followed my blog or Twitter for any length of time, you know I've been calling for the A's to hire Davey Johnson as their manager for years.

And if you follow the A's at all, in particular re: Billy Beane's apparent beliefs about the limited role of the field manager, you now know precisely why this was never even a possibility.
