Arte Moreno, owner of Anaheim, the A's chief rival the last few years, appears to be having a little bit of buyer's remorse over Gary Matthews, who the Angels signed to a 5-year, $50 million contract this offseason. The best part of the story is this:
"It's going to be resolved by opening day, one way or the other. I promise you that," Moreno said.
Moreno, who signed Matthews to a five-year, $50-million contract in November, would not elaborate on the meaning of "one way or the other."
I'm not sure what Moreno thinks he can do to resolve this. Is he going to release Matthews? Death match with Bud Selig? These threats are silly, Arte.
