Visual evidence

Jeff Passan, writing about the watering down of the 500-homer club, lists recent admissions to the club who have some sort of PED taint. Most of them are unobjectionable: Gary Sheffield and Barry Bonds have admitted use, Alex Rodriguez and Rafael Palmeiro tested positive, and Mark McGwire all but admitted using. But then we get to Sammy Sosa, about whom Passan says there is "visual evidence". What in the hell is that supposed to mean? That he got big? That's simply absurd. Maybe Sosa used, maybe he didn't, but you can't convict him on the basis of "visual evidence". That's bullshit.

This is, of course, without getting into the issue that Passan actually writes about, the watering down of the 500 Club. The main response to which is: the pitchers were using, too.
