Boog Powell also to the DL

Mark Canha will come to Oakland with Boog Powell hitting the disabled list. The outfield situation before the injuries was pretty straightforward:

Position vs. L vs. R
LF Pinder Joyce
CF Smolinski Powell
RF Piscotty Piscotty
DH Davis Davis

Now, they A's are down a lefty outfielder, and up 2½ righty outfielders (counting Franklin Barreto as a potential sorta outfielder), plus Matt Joyce isn't at 100 percent. I'm curious to see whether Smolinski or Thompson draws most of the starts in center, whether Barreto gets any time out there, whether Smolinski or Thompson plays center when they're both in the lineup, and which two of Smolinski-Canha-Thompson Bob Melvin goes with against left-handed starters.

It also seems likely, or maybe I'm just being hopeful, that all of this is a 10-day situation anyway, at least as to Mark Canha. I would guess that he, not Thompson, is now who loses his spot when Trevor Cahill joins the rotation, since he does have options, and there's no point giving Thompson away if they don't have to. (And it would have to be Canha over Barreto since optioning the latter would leave the team without a backup infielder. Bruce Maxwell at shortstop would be funny, but not that funny.)
